The Ichthys LNG Project’s involvement with Darwin officially started in September 2008, when operator INPEX and then sole joint venture partner Total announced the Northern Territory as the preferred home for its onshore processing facilities.

Since then, INPEX has opened in the Darwin CBD, the Project was granted environmental approval, a 3,500 person accommodation village in Howard Springs was completed and two dredging campaigns deepened the shipping channel in Darwin Harbour.

And at Bladin Point, a 361 hectare site is carefully being transformed into one of the world’s largest LNG processing facilities. A peak workforce of about 8,000 onsite on any given day is needed to complete the onshore facilities at Bladin Point, which are currently under construction.

Lead onshore contractor, JKC Australia LNG (JKC), is responsible for construction of the Project’s onshore facilities. In collaboration with INPEX JKC and Project teams have worked hard to keep the Darwin community engaged and informed on progress.
